I have had the same thought perhaps thirty times: this would take an afternoon to fix. And then not done it, because thirty afternoons is a month, and a month of separate little apps is a month of separate little maintenance. Toolbox is the compromise — one application, one place to grant permissions, and a module gets added when I actually miss it.
The admission rule is real personal use. If something else already solves it well, that area is closed: Alfred, Bartender and CleanMyMac are on my machine and are therefore explicitly not what this is for.
The seven modules
- Window Shelf — a quick app and window switcher, with thumbnails. Not a Stage Manager replacement.
- Wheel Fix — smoothed wheel scrolling and a scroll direction for the wheel that is separate from the trackpad's. This one replaced a third-party tool outright.
- Hover Focus — focus follows the pointer. With three displays I kept typing into the window I was looking at rather than the one that had the focus; macOS has no setting for this.
- Clipboard History — the last things I copied, searchable, with pinning. Stored encrypted at rest, and proven encrypted rather than assumed: the on-disk index is authenticated ciphertext and a plaintext sentinel does not appear in it.
- Awake — display or system sleep held off for a chosen while, without remembering
caffeinateflags. - Auto Maximize — a new window from a chosen app arrives filling the screen, still an ordinary window.
- Launch Sets — named groups of apps started together, skipping whatever is already running.
Where it actually stands
0.7.0, released and installed for my own use on 2026-08-31, not tagged.
“Released” here does not mean a public download exists: this is built for my Mac first,
and I have not decided to distribute it. It needs Accessibility and Input Monitoring for
much of what it does. Hover Focus, the wheel and the clipboard still need daily-use findings.

What’s next
- Hover Focus and the clipboard have to survive weeks of real use before either is finished.
- Awake needs a long-running verdict; a sleep blocker either holds or it does not.
- External trackpads and multi-display gestures need hardware I do not own, so they stay untested rather than claimed.
